Straight answers
Four things people ask us every week. Anything else, ask on the estimate — that is what it is for.
Oklahoma. Humid summers swell the boards and a winter of forced-air heat dries them back out, so the floor moves twice a year. Most of it closes up on its own. Holding the house between 35% and 45% relative humidity year round is what keeps it from getting worse, and it is the first thing we check before we install anything.
On most refinishing jobs, yes. The sanders run into a sealed vacuum, so the dust never reaches your vents or your cabinets. The nights the finish goes down are the exception, and we tell you which nights those are before we start — not the morning of.
In most Tulsa homes built before 1960 there is, usually two-and-a-quarter-inch red oak. Pull the carpet back in a closet corner and look at the edge. If it is there, refinishing it almost always costs less than laying a new floor.
